Load moreImperial compression fittings are sized to imperial pipe diameters, still common on older UK plumbing and pipework where imperial-sized copper tube was originally installed. Mixing imperial and metric fittings on the same run doesn't work; the olive and nut won't seat correctly even where the outside diameters look close, which is where our Imperial to Metric Coupling earns its place, letting you transition between the two standards without re-piping the whole run.
All our imperial compression fittings are brass, which handles hot and cold water systems without the corrosion risk of lower-grade materials. Olives, the small compression rings that create the seal, are sold separately from the fitting body and should be replaced rather than reused once a joint has been broken.
Check your existing pipe diameter before ordering; imperial and metric sizes are close enough to cause confusion but not close enough to interchange.
Orders over £200 to England and Wales qualify for free delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my pipework is imperial or metric?
Measure the outside diameter of the pipe. Imperial sizes (such as 1/2 inch) and metric sizes (such as 15mm) are close but not identical, and using the wrong fitting will result in a joint that won't seal properly.
Can I connect imperial pipe to metric pipe?
Yes, using an imperial-to-metric coupling designed for the purpose. Don't try to force a standard imperial or metric fitting onto the wrong pipe size.
Do I need to replace the olive every time I break a joint?
Yes. Once an olive has been compressed to form a seal, it takes the shape of that joint. Reusing it on a reassembled joint is a common cause of leaks.
Do you deliver imperial compression fittings near me?
The Hosemaster delivers to all UK mainland addresses. Orders over £200 to England and Wales qualify for free delivery, with 1–2 day delivery and same-day dispatch on most in-stock lines.
