Not every plug or cap does the same job. A dust cap keeps grit and moisture out of an open port during storage but isn't rated to hold pressure. A pressure plug or blanking cap is built to seal a live line or hold residual pressure during transport. Using one in place of the other is a common mistake that either fails to protect the system or fails under load.

Thread type and size need to match the port exactly; there's no universal fit across BSP, metric and imperial threads. Plastic caps are fine for general dust protection on low-duty applications; metal plugs and caps are used where higher pressure retention or a more secure seal is needed.
