PCL 100 Series: heavy-duty compressed air couplings

The 100 Series is PCL's coupling for high-demand applications. Where the 60 Series covers general workshop tools, the 100 Series is specified for environments where air tools draw a sustained high volume: large impact guns for HGV and bus workshop use, heavy grinding and cutting equipment, and high-volume spray booths. Restricting these tools to a smaller coupling body reduces their available air flow and limits performance, often more than the tool's rated pressure suggests.

The coupling mechanism is the same push-and-release design used across the PCL range, but the body is larger and the bore diameter is greater to pass the required air volume. This means the 100 Series is not physically interchangeable with the 60 Series: the male plugs and female sockets are different sizes. You cannot mix the two in a single system without a conversion adaptor.

Swivel and fixed adaptors are available with BSP male and female threads. Swivel adaptors reduce hose torsion at dynamic connection points; fixed adaptors are used at static outlets such as wall take-off points and distribution manifolds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PCL 100 Series coupling designed for?

The PCL 100 Series is designed for larger air tool applications in heavy workshop, garage and tyre shop environments. It is rated for tools with higher air consumption than the 60 Series can handle, such as large impact guns, heavy grinding equipment and high-volume spray systems used in commercial vehicle and HGV servicing.

How does the PCL 100 Series differ from the 60 Series?

The 100 Series has a larger coupling body and greater bore diameter than the 60 Series, allowing it to pass a higher volume of air. This makes it the correct choice for tools with high sustained air demand. The coupling geometries are different and the two ranges are not physically interchangeable.

Are PCL 100 Series couplings compatible with standard air tools?

The 100 Series is compatible with tools specified for this coupling size. Most general workshop tools use the 60 Series; the 100 Series is for higher-demand tools. Attempting to connect a 100 Series coupling to a 60 Series socket will not work as the plug dimensions are different.

What air tools need the PCL 100 Series coupling?

Large impact guns used in bus and HGV workshops, heavy-duty grinders and cutting equipment, and high-volume spray applications are the primary uses. If a tool is underperforming on a 60 Series connection despite adequate compressor output, restricted air flow through the smaller coupling may be the reason.

Are 100 Series and 60 Series couplings interchangeable?

No. The 100 Series and 60 Series use different coupling body sizes and geometries. A 100 Series male plug will not connect to a 60 Series female socket, and vice versa. If you need to connect equipment of different coupling standards, a conversion adaptor is required.
