Pneumatics is the use of compressed air to transmit force and control motion. An air filter removes water, oil vapour, and particulate from compressed air before it reaches tools or processes. A regulator controls the downstream pressure. Used together, they protect equipment, extend tool life, and allow different tools on the same circuit to run at their correct pressures. An oiler adds a fine lubricant mist for tools with internal moving parts.

Tube size is determined by the flow rate required and the port sizes of the fittings and devices at each end. Common sizes for general workshop use are 6mm and 8mm OD. Larger diameters, 10mm, 12mm, and 16mm, are used where higher flow or longer runs demand less restriction. Always match the tube OD to the fitting collet size.

A pneumatic silencer fits to the exhaust port of a valve or cylinder and reduces the noise of air venting to atmosphere. They are most useful in applications with frequent cycling, such as automated machinery or production lines, where unsilenced exhausts generate significant noise. Silencers are available in BSP thread sizes to match standard valve ports.
