Where the Environment Makes Every Specification Harder

Boats are a tough environment for hoses. Salt water accelerates degradation. Engine heat from close quarters raises the temperature rating required. Access for inspection is often awkward, which means a failure that would be a minor inconvenience on land becomes a problem at sea. Getting the right hose installed and inspected on a proper schedule is worth the effort.

Wet exhaust hose is the most specific application in this category. It carries a mix of exhaust gas and cooling water from the engine to the transom, which means it sees heat, back pressure from the water, and exposure to raw sea water simultaneously. The construction needs to handle all three. Standard industrial hose won't do it. Marine wet exhaust hose is built with a specific wall construction and temperature rating for exactly this application. Learn more in our guide: Why High-Quality Exhaust Hoses Matter in Marine Environments.

Raw water cooling hose, bilge hose, and deck wash hose have different but still demanding specifications. All need to be UV-resistant, saltwater-tolerant, and built to last in a cramped installation. Where a hose runs below the waterline, it also needs to be rated for the application; a bilge hose failure below the waterline is a very different situation to one above it.

We stock marine hose in standard lengths and bore sizes. Check product pages for full technical specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a wet exhaust hose?

A wet exhaust hose carries exhaust gas mixed with cooling water from a marinised diesel or petrol engine to the boat's exhaust outlet. It needs to handle engine heat, exhaust backpressure, and exposure to raw sea water. Learn more in our guide: Why High-Quality Exhaust Hoses Matter in Marine Environments.

How often should I replace marine exhaust hoses?

Inspect annually as a minimum. Replace if you see cracking, hardening, or any sign of delamination inside the bore. Most manufacturers recommend replacing wet exhaust hose every 5–7 years regardless of visible condition.

Can I use standard rubber hose below the waterline?

No. Hose used in below waterline applications must be rated for that use. Standard rubber hose is not appropriate; use a hose specifically rated for marine bilge or below waterline installation.

What's the difference between bilge hose and deck wash hose?

Bilge hose is built to sit in the bilge and carry water mixed with whatever contaminants accumulate there. Deck wash hose handles seawater under the pressure of a deck wash pump. Both need UV and saltwater resistance, but bilge hose needs better chemical and oil tolerance.
