Steam hose failures are dangerous. Saturated steam at 6 bar carries enough energy to cause serious burns, and a whipping hose under that pressure makes the situation worse. There's no category in the hose range where specification, condition monitoring, and replacement schedule matter more.

The key specifications for a steam hose are the working pressure, maximum temperature rating, and the bore material. A hose rated for 185°C and 18 bar is not the same as one rated for 165°C and 12 bar, and using the wrong one for a higher pressure application is a safety failure, not just a product mismatch. Learn more in our guide: How to Choose the Best Steam Hose & Fittings for Your Needs.

EPDM is the standard inner bore compound for steam applications; it handles the temperature and resists steam condensate well. The reinforcement layers and outer jacket also matter: a steam hose needs to be heat resistant on the outside as well as the inside.

Fittings for steam need to be rated for the pressure and temperature, properly crimped or swaged, and inspected along with the hose at every service interval. A steam fitting that's been over-tightened or is showing signs of corrosion is a replacement job, not a make-do. Learn more in our guide: Safety Guidelines for Using Steam Hoses and Fittings.

We supply steam hose assemblies with ends fitted and pressure tested on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pressure and temperature does a steam hose need to handle?

That depends on your system. Common industrial steam systems run at 4–10 bar and 150–180°C. Check your boiler output and system pressure, then select a hose rated above those figures with an appropriate safety margin.

How often should a steam hose be replaced?

Inspect every 6 months as a minimum in regular use. Replace annually, or immediately if any external cracking, softness, or coupling movement is found. Many operators work to a timed replacement schedule regardless of visible condition. Learn more in our guide: Safety Guidelines for Using Steam Hoses and Fittings.

Can a steam hose be repaired?

No. A compromised steam hose is a replacement job. Field repairs to steam hose or fittings are not acceptable.

Do I need special fittings for steam?

Yes. Steam fittings need to be rated for the working pressure and temperature of your system. Standard push-fit or low pressure fittings are not appropriate.
