Choosing a Hose Reel That's Right for the Job

The difference between a good hose reel and a frustrating one tends to show up after six months. A reel that's undersized for the hose gauge doesn't retract cleanly. One that's not rated for the medium develops a leak at the swivel. And a spring mechanism that's too weak for the hose length leaves you with a pile of hose on the floor rather than a tidy retract. Get the spec right first time.

The first variable is the medium. Air reels are rated for compressed air, typically 20–30 bar working pressure through the internal passages and swivel joint. Water reels handle a different pressure range. Oil reels need to be rated for hydraulic or lubricating oil. Don't run a medium through a reel that's not rated for it.
